Computing
BackAt Pickhurst Infant Academy, we recognise that technology is an integral part of modern life and will play a pivotal role in the futures of the children we teach. As an Infant school, it is our responsibility to equip our pupils with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to use technology positively, responsibly, and safely.
Our Computing curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation in Computer Science, Information Technology, and Digital Literacy. It is aspirational, creative, and carefully structured to develop the knowledge and skills children need to succeed in Key Stage 1 and beyond.
Online safety is a cornerstone of our curriculum, embedded across all year groups to ensure that children develop confidence in staying safe and responsible online. While the children are too young for social media, we prepare them for the future by modelling positive use of these platforms. As a school, we use our media channels to celebrate achievements, share respectful communication, and demonstrate the value of kindness and responsibility in the digital world.
We emphasise that technology is a tool for creativity, learning, and connection, but its use always involves choices. Our aim is to instil in our pupils the importance of respect, friendship, and responsibility, teaching them that these values apply equally in both online and offline contexts. Through this approach, we hope to prepare children to navigate the digital world confidently, safely, and ethically as they grow.
